Price increases are planned for 1,477 food and beverage items in Japan in November 2026, roughly 10 times the number recorded in the same month a year earlier, according to a survey by Teikoku Databank reported by Kyodo News.
The number of items affected had already exceeded 3,000 in September and October. Rising raw material costs and a weaker yen continue to put upward pressure on food and beverage prices.

The year-on-year comparison points to a much larger number of planned price increases in November, but it does not indicate how much prices will rise. Nor does the number of affected items alone establish the overall effect on household spending: that will also depend on the size of individual increases and the products consumers buy.
For retailers and buyers, the immediate question is how cost pressures translate into prices across affected products. Subsequent price announcements and changes in raw material costs and the yen will help show whether the pressure continues.
